One of the things I love about Art Journals is that I can do whatever I want in them! Most of the time, when I'm bored, I will grab my art journal and splash some mist and paint on a page... then I let it sit overnight and go back to it during the week... adding a few things here and there. And that is EXACTLY what I did with this spread.
I love the purples, pinks, blues and oranges on this layout... I don't even know why I chose these colors... I simply started brushing my Coloration Sprays from Art Antholog (Sky, Juicy, Ink Spot, Patience) onto the spread after applying clear gesso to the page so it would not tear. I chose colors to the kraft page that inspired me at the moment. It was SOOOOO therapeutic for me. I just love playing with mixed media product when I have the time.
I glued a piece of burlap onto a kraft tag to use as my frame for the photo. Then I punched a floral mat using a metal die from Pinkfresh Studio to tuck behind the tag.
The "love" snippet was actually a journaling card that I cut in half to use as my title! Initially I was going to color inside the letters using markers, but I decided against it since I already had lots of colors on this spread. ;)
I added a few embellishments from my stash here and there. I finally got to use the "click click capture" flair from 7 Dots Studio. I've had this flair in my stash for a few years...waiting for the right project to use it on. It's perfect. And... I did not even come across it until I had the page painted... it just happened to work out.
At the last minute, I decided to add the moon dream catcher die cut to frame the left-side of the photos. It really changed the whole dynamic of this spread and I LOVE it!
What do you think? Have you given art journaling a try? I just started art journaling last year and I am in love with this new way of recording and capturing my memories!

MY HEART
Last month, for Edward's 9th birthday I took him shopping to pick out his own gifts. He was not expecting this and he was very excited about it! While we were shopping, he glanced over at the Sunglasses and kept walking. This kid LOVES sunglasses... but he didn't stop. Let me just say, he does not ask for much... so knowing this, I asked him if he would like to check out the glasses and he shook his head. So we went over there and he was in his own little world trying on multiple pairs until he found a pair that fit. He found these sunglasses and they were perfect for him. He has such a goofy personality. My heart literally stopped when I saw him in these shades. He is so freaking handsome.

YOU + ME
Happy Sunday everyone! I've spent the weekend scrapping my little heart out and it felt great. This weekend, I pulled out my paints, molding paste and mist and just had fun...
Are you looking for a fun challenge? Check out Canvas Corp Brands' February Challenge. I love the color scheme! It's so different from my normal color preferences...but I am always up for a challenge. Also, 7 Dots Studio has a Mood Board Challenge this month. I decided to combine them since I was using products from both companies! I decided to scrap this photo of my mom and her boyfriend. I may frame it and give it to her! :) She loves that... I make pretty things for her all the time.
I love this sheet of patterned paper from 7 Dots Studio so I pulled this aside so I can use it on this layout. I used a pair of scissors to fussy cut the flower out of the paper.
I used a paint brush to brush the mist onto the patterned paper. Then I used a baby wipe to blend the mist in a bit. I know it doesn't look great...but the background isn't done yet. :)
Then I used some acrylic paint by Bad Girls Couture to blend in with the mist to break down the blue a bit. I simply scraped the paint across the mist using a card.
Then I covered the base using a large stencil from The Crafter's Workshop. I used a palette knife to smear the white molding paste over the stencil as lightly as possible to avoid smearing the stencil...which I still did, but that's OK.
I sprayed the tag and lace trim using the mist.
I added a touch of red to the tag then added the lace to the tag.
Here is a closer look at the cluster of embellishments. I fussy cut the flower then added the button and pearl. I used a butterfly stamp from Jillibean Soup to create my own die cut butterfly.

Isn't this pretty? I like how pieces of the mist and paint shows behind the flowers.
I sprayed the tag and lace trim using the mist.
I added a touch of red to the tag then added the lace to the tag.
I like using Yes Paste when creating a mixed media layout because it gives me more flexibility... the paste does not dry fast which is what I want so I have time to move pieces here and there and tuck more layers in between the papers if needed.
Here is a closer look at the cluster of embellishments. I fussy cut the flower then added the button and pearl. I used a butterfly stamp from Jillibean Soup to create my own die cut butterfly.
I added a few more embellishments here and there. And the notebook paper. I love the look of notebook paper on a vintage layout. It really makes the layout pop.
